Isle of Wight Lifestyle

It’s been just over a month since my wife, 5 month old and I made the move to the Isle of Wight and in that short time I can say that we absolutely love the island. The people have been welcoming, the scenery amazing and the pace of life is extremely chilled out.

Here are three things I love about our new island home:

1. The beach is always close by (and walkable from our new home).

2. There are vineyards and a brewery close by that make some brilliant local wines and beers.

3. The only traffic jam is when you’re stuck behind a tractor.

Here are a few photos I’ve taken of our first month on the island. More to come in the future!

Snow in Kent

Snow is expected in Kent for 9pm this evening and overnight with some significant accumulations expected, it’ll keep coming until early morning. There will also be some brisk chilly winds and freezing fog patches.

Expect snow in February 2012

Should the snow stick around you can expect to hear about school closures in Medway and Kent on the breakfast show Monday morning when you wake up.

The dirty truth has been revealed about men’s underwear habits.

Underwear habits

According to research, less than eight in 10 men change their pants every day. While 95 per cent of women don new knickers every morning.

Regionally, 91 per cent of those here in Kent change their underwear daily, that drops to 81 per cent for those living in the north west.

QEII Bridge Closed & Train Disruption

Strong winds are continuing to cause problems in Kent.

A number of roads and bridges, including the M25′s QEII bridge, have been closed off again today. It’s a dangerous driving day and motorists are urged to take care.

Travel disruption due to storms

A number of train services, like the Chatham Mainline and Medway Valley Line, also experienced delays after debris and tree branches were blown on to the tracks overnight.

New Year New Job

This morning on breakfast I played Aloe Blacc “I need a dollar, dollar, dollar is what I need”. Today is apparently the biggest day of the year for people looking for a new job.

It reaches an annual peak at 12:38pm. The experts think that more job seekers - trying to make good on their New Year Resolutions to find a new job – will scour job listing websites. Job Centres across the land including in Medway are expected to have a busy day too.

Fierce Storms in Kent

Welcome to 2012! 2011 was the second warmest year ever and this one seems to have gotten off to a bit of a ropey start with fierce storms battering Kent and Medway and possible winds of up to 85 miles-an-hour along with heavy rain.

Wet and windy in Kent

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warnings across Kent and the weather caused massive travel disruption during the morning rush hour. The Queen Elizebeth II bridge was closed all morning and created a 90 minute queue at peak commuter time.

Scotland will be hit the hardest though – with snow on the way.

Shopping centres across Kent and the UK have been extremely busy this Christmas Eve with people buying last minute presents. According to statistics most of the shoppers have been male. Today has been dubbed the “mad man rush” by retailers.
