Apples are good for spooky activities like apple dunking – a fun game for the kids to try at home. Use carrots to make a scary pumpkin, wicked witch or crazy carrot cake. Gingerbread is good for making gingerbread men, bats and ghosts (with white icing on top).

Today is Apple Day – not Steve Jobs related – it’s a chance to celebrate local apples produced in Kent.
I’m doing my bit by eating an organically grown Kentish Apple and there are festivals all over to celebrate the mighty British apple. This weekend Brogdale Farm in Faversham will celebrate with an apple festival. There will be around500 varieties of apple to sample!

Apples are a firm British favourite. I always remember the phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” as I eat mine every morning. Gala is now the UK’s favourite apple overtaking Cox by 400 tonnes of supermarket sales. Braeburn is in third place and Egremont takes forth.
