    Pumpkins

Great Halloween food ideas using pumpkins

Here are some suggestions for your favourite Halloween food ideas. A good way to start Halloween 2011 is to scrape up all the goodness from the big pumpkin you have and mix it all down into a soup.

Apples are good for spooky activities like apple dunking – a fun game for the kids to try at home. Use carrots to make a scary pumpkin, wicked witch or crazy carrot cake. Gingerbread is good for making gingerbread men, bats and ghosts (with white icing on top).

Halloween Cupcake Idea

Why not spread white icing on top of a cupcake in the shape of a web and add some orange and purple sprinkles for a spooky effect?

Apple Day Kent

Today is Apple Day – not Steve Jobs related – it’s a chance to celebrate local apples produced in Kent.

Celebrate local apples

Eating an apple during the "more music half hour"

I’m doing my bit by eating an organically grown Kentish Apple and there are festivals all over to celebrate the mighty British apple. This weekend Brogdale Farm in Faversham will celebrate with an apple festival. There will be around500 varieties of apple to sample!

The Colonel is dead… long live KFC!

You may think John Travolta may have no trouble reserving a table at the East Grinstead KFC outlet? Think again! Travolta, who was in the UK for an annual Scientology get together, was told he’d “have to queue like everyone else”.

The UK’s Favourite Apple

Apples are a firm British favourite. I always remember the phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” as I eat mine every morning. Gala is now the UK’s favourite apple overtaking Cox by 400 tonnes of supermarket sales. Braeburn is in third place and Egremont takes forth.

The Nicest Celebrities

Holly Willoughby voted the friendliest celebrity

Holly Willoughby voted the friendliest celebrity

A survey by Guinness today, ahead of St Patrick’s Day, reveals Holly Willoughby as the friendliest famous face and places Simon Cowell as the unfriendliest of celebs.

  • Dave likes Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez.
  • James in Maidstone has met Hulk Hogan and says that he’s friendly.
  • Leigh in Cuxton has said it’s got to be Bill Turnbull from BBC Breakfast.
  • Amanda found Vanessa Feltz and Michael Palin to be friendly. Especially when she met the latter in a cafe over a plate of chips!
