Radio Festival in Manchester

I’ve been away from the breakfast show for the start of this week learning plenty of new exciting things about radio up in Manchester at #radfest11.

Media City UK

Media City UK in November 2011

There have been all kinds of interesting technology on display like a DAB digital radio transmitter for under 5 grand (I want one of those) and the latest broadcasting equipment. The speakers were fantastic too – my favourites included – Duncan Bannatyne OBE, Steve Wright, New York’s Elvis Duran and Google UK’s Matt Brittin.

I’ll be back on kmfm Breakfast, waking up Medway, tomorrow morning.

Pocket Money Rise

Pocket money has risen for the first time in 7 years. It’s estimated that we’re now giving out £6.25 to each child in the UK.

Children's Pocket Money

My pocket money as a kid - if I was lucky!

Much more than when I was a kid!

Most Googled 2011

Amy Winehouse is the most Googled subject of the summer. We were also interested in Ryan Giggs of Manchester United and the Beckham’s newest family member Harper Beckham.

The Apprentice was the most Googled TV show and the movie we’ve been most interested in is The Inbetweeners.

The best of the rest include Wimbledon, Euromillions, Harry Potter and, of course, a British favourite – the weather!

Mike’s Mindbender

This old one runs forever but never moves at all. He has not lungs nor throat but still a mighty roaring call. What is it?

Google+ Games

How Addicted Are You?

How many hours do you spend on social networking sites playing games? Do you just need a few more pumpkin seeds to make your farm superior? Perhaps if you fire that angry bird off at a more acute angle you’ll knock all the pigs out in one go?

Google+ Games

Could Google+ kill other social networks?

Social networking and games are the top two ways that we spend our time on the internet followed far behind by e-mail in third place. We use (waste) a third of our time on social networking and gaming combined.

The good news for gamers is that the newest, and fastest growing,  social network Google+ is joining the party. They will begin rolling out games to users of Google+ from today. Top games will include Angry Birds, Bubble Island and for leisure gamblers Zynga Poker will be available.

Google+ Invite

Membership to Google+, at the time of writing this, is still by invite only. If you’d like to join the latest craze in social networking I’m pleased to offer a Google+ invite link for you but hurry as I only have a few invites left using the link!

Mike’s Mindbender

A man managed to visit over thirty foreign countries without his passport. He was welcomed in each country and left each one of his own accord. He did this in one day. How?
