Today is Christmas Eve Eve and as we look forward to Christmas Day in Medway I’ve been looking back at the year that was 2011. What a year it’s been! Looking back at some of my columns from the year back in the summer we were cheering on Sinatra sound-alike Robbie Firmin in Britain’s Got Talent, Medway hosts made an appearance on Come Dine With Me, we had a weird week of weather in the last week of July with strong thunderstorms and the Castle Concerts and Medway Milewere amazing in Rochester.
More recently we’ve had Vanilla Ice in Panto in Chatham and giveaways on kmfm to send schools off to pantos in Gravesend, Dartford and Chatham.
I’ve already had the chance to read today’s festive edition of the Medway Messenger and there are some great stories inside.
You’ll see stories of courageous youngsters, the national mistletoe shortage, free parking in Medway over Christmas and news that around a quater of a million attended the Dickens Christmas Market in Rochester raising £7.5 million for the local economy.
Thanks for reading (and listening) this year and here’s to 2012!
Merry Christmas,
Mike Russell
Looking For A Parking Space
According to a new survey today we spend around 8,325 circling around in search of a parking space. I’ve certainly had that experience during trips to the Bluewater sales and also trying to find that golden on-street parking space in some neighbourhoods!
Apparently motorists are so frustrated by the parknig problem, one in ten have admited to using a disabled bay when they shouldn’t.
Twitter #numbers
It was 5 years ago to the week that a small team were working from a small scribble to create what we now know as Twitter. It then took 3 year, 2 months and a day to reach the billionth Tweet (a billion Tweets are now sent every week). Twitter now sees just under half a million new accounts created daily and employs 400 people. Remember to follow me Mike Russell on Twitter.

Get Kent Fit
This morning the team from Reynolds Fitness Spa joined me on the show to answer your health and fitness questions along with motivating you to join the gym. This week as part of “Get Kent Fit” I had a full health & fitness assessment, gym & weight training, spin cycling, body classes and finally a nice massage to wind down. It’s been fun and certainly inspired me to stay healthy for 2011.
Tweeting at the Wheel
This morning Jenni Horn from the Medway Messenger was on the show to look at some of the interesting stories in the paper out today. How about the shocking fact that some drivers in Medway are Tweeting and updating Facebook at the wheel? Read the full Tweeting at the wheel story here…
