More girls joined the Scouts, which have been mixed sex since the 1990s, than boys last year. 4,300 girls joined in 2010 compared to 3,800 new boys.

This morning on the show we remembered some of the best Scout badges such as the Astronomer, DIY, Fire Safety and even Circus Skills badge (good for a clown like me!)

The Egyptian That Named His Daughter Facebook

An Egyptian man has chosen the name ‘Facebook’ for his new baby daughter in tribute to the social networking site that helped to organise the 25 January 2011 revolution.

What next? A sister called Twitter and a brother named Foursquare maybe?

Mike’s Mindbender: A woman is seated and is writing. There is a thunderstorm outside and she dies as a consequence. How did she die? ANSWER: She was a sky-writer sitting in a plane that crashed when it was struck by lightning.

Carrots “Make You More Attractive”

It was revealed this morning, new research shows, that if you eat more carrots it can make you more attractive!

Prince Charles loves carrots!

This morning I was asking about the secret ingredients you use when cooking. Some of the best included a spoon of sugar, crunched up crisps, tomato sauce and even cod liver oil when cooking porridge (sounds healthy; I’m not sure about the taste though!)

Peculiar People

Finally, today is Peculiar People Day. It’s a day to pay tribute to uniquely different people and those with a peculiar talent. Rude Tube 2011 was on Channel 4 over the weekend – 100 of the most watched internet videos – and included scores of very peculiar people. If you’ve got 90 minutes to kill watch it!

RIP Gerry Rafferty & Bird Facts

RIP Gerry Rafferty

Today we said goodbye to another legend, Gerry Rafferty died yesterday aged 63, best remembered for “Stuck In The Middle With You” and, of course, “Baker Street”. The wonderful saxophone solo will live on and I played the air saxophone in tribute today.

Bird Facts

Today is a day of Birds for bird lovers and bird watchers all over the planet. I thought you’d enjoy these bird facts:

  • Nine is the total amount of yolks seen in one chicken egg.
  • The only wingless bird in the world is the New Zealand Kiwi.
  • Pigeons can reach speeds of 100mph.

I’ll certainly bear that last fact in mind when feeding the birds in the park next time. Woooah!
