Twitter in Dublin

Irish Twitter

Twitter comes to Ireland

Ireland is trending on Twitter. The micro-blogging site is making Dublin its European headquarters although it’s not been revealed how many jobs will be created from the move.

11+ Exam

Did you have a child involved in the 11+ over the weekend? Today’s Medway Messenger is running an interesting article on 11+ errors and the amount of pressure children of that age are put under. Let me know if you have any opinions on the 11+ exam.

Things We Learned on Twitter

You Heard it First Here

Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are helping to speed up and improve emergency service responses to natural disasters and health emergencies.

Twitter

Tweet the latest news

The rate at which news can spread across social networks means that, in many cases, you learn about breaking news first online.

What did you learn about online recently?

  • Sarah heard about the death of Amy Winehouse first on Facebook
  • John found out about the new iPhone on Twitter.
  • Richard had first discovered the earthquake in Haiti on Twitter.

Medway Mile 2011

It was great to see so many people at the Medway Mile this year including The Worshipful Mayor of Medway Cllr Ted Baker, Reh Chishti MP, Cllr Mike O’Brien, Cllr Tristan Osborne and runners from the KM Group Bob Bounds and Dan Bloom to name a few.

View from the Medway Mile stage

The evening’s entertainment consisted of the fantastic Black Eagles from Tanzania balancing on each other’s heads, circus acts and a fire eater! It was all rounded off with a fantastic firework finale lighting up Rochester Castle and Cathedral. I had many phone calls congratulating Medway Council on such a great event. I hear that the Medway Mile 2012 is going to be even bigger and better. Watch this space!

New Scrabble Words

New Scrabble Words

The Collins Official Scrabble Words, that only allows words that have been proven to be used and written down regularly in the English language, have introduced some new words to the game.

If you’re a fun of curry it’s good news as you can now get away with ‘keema’ or the less point rich ‘aloo’ which will score you 4 points.

‘Innit’, ‘wiki’ and ‘myspace’ have also made it into the game!

Fish Songs

Twitter has been a top story in the news for all the wrong reasons this morning with the fact that people can tweet names involved in super-injunctions and get away with it.

The lighter side of Twitter this morning has seen the tag #fishsongs trending. Here are a few good ones for you:

  • Madonna – Pike A Virgin
  • Kiss – Trout It Out Loud
  • Black Eyed Peas – I’ve got A Eeling
  • Brotherhood of Man – Save All Your Fishes For Me
  • Blur – Gills & Bouys
